To tow safely and legally, stay within every applicable limit: the vehicle’s braked towing capacity, Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), Gross Combination Mass (GCM) and axle limits; the vehicle and towbar’s maximum tow-ball mass limits; and the caravan’s Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) and payload limits. Check the owner’s manual, manufacturer guidance and compliance plates. Passengers, accessories, camping gear and tow-ball load do not change the vehicle’s published towing capacity, but they use its available GVM, GCM and axle capacity and may reduce the trailer mass you can tow while remaining within every limit.

The most common cause of caravan accidents is swaying or “snaking”, followed by driver fatigue, excessive speed, overloading, and incorrect tyre pressures. Always load your van correctly, check your tyres, take regular breaks, and never exceed the speed limit.

Even a highway-tested caravan can sway if loading, setup or conditions change. If sway occurs, do not apply the tow vehicle’s brakes except as a last resort. If the trailer brakes can be operated independently, apply them gently; otherwise maintain a steady speed or slight acceleration, if safe, until the sway stops. Once stable, slow down smoothly, pull over safely, and check loading, tyres, coupling and braking equipment before continuing.

Your mirrors must provide a clear view along both sides of the caravan and of traffic behind, following or overtaking. If the caravan obstructs that view, fit suitable towing mirrors and check the specific requirements in every state or territory you travel through.

Our caravans come with generous storage space, including front and rear storage compartments, and each unit is carefully weight-balanced front-to-rear and side-to-side at the factory in an unladen state. To help maintain this balance, we'd encourage customers to keep loading in mind when packing — spreading weight evenly from front to back and side to side can help ensure the best towing experience.

Each Australian state and territory has different caravan registration laws. All caravans must be roadworthy and registered. Registration costs vary by state. Always check your registration expiry date before departing on a trip to avoid travelling with an unregistered vehicle.

Traditional “stick and tin” caravans use a meranti timber frame with external cladding glued on. Over time, movement causes gaps that allow water ingress, leading to timber rot – often after the warranty period has expired. Sandwich panel construction replaces the timber frame with a lightweight aluminium frame and uses pre-bonded panels, eliminating the gaps and rot risk while providing far superior insulation.

Yes. The weight shown on your VIN plate is accurate at the time of manufacture, and is certified using a calibrated weigh bridge. Note that the weight excludes water and gas, and does not account for any aftermarket options fitted after manufacture.

Current Periple RV models use a 314Ah lithium battery bank as standard. Current 16 FT models are upgradable to 942Ah, while FLUIDE is upgradable to 628Ah. Refer to the individual product page for the exact inverter, charging and monitoring configuration.

Your 12V system powers water pump, LED lighting, TV, radio, fans, and toilet pump. These are all low-wattage items that run efficiently from your onboard battery, even without mains power – as long as your battery is charged.

We recommend a minimum of a 2000W generator (e.g. Honda 20i) for general use. A smaller 1000W unit can power a fridge, water pump, lights, and small TV. If you need to run an air conditioner or a 240V CPAP machine, a generator is your best option when free camping.

Current Periple RV models include a 314Ah lithium battery bank and 400W of monocrystalline solar as standard. Current 16 FT models are upgradable to 942Ah and FLUIDE to 628Ah; solar is upgradable to 600W across current published models. A portable solar panel can also be connected through the fitted Anderson connection where applicable. Confirm appliance loads and the exact product-page electrical configuration before planning extended free camping.

If the van is unused for a period, charge the battery periodically. If you have solar and the panels get occasional sunlight, they will maintain the battery. Otherwise, connect to 240V mains for 24 hours every 4–6 weeks. Always charge the battery fully before each trip.

Trailers over 750kg GTM must have an efficient service braking system. Over-run brakes may be used up to 2,000kg GTM; above 2,000kg, brakes must operate on all wheels and an automatic breakaway system is required. Periple caravans use electric brakes, so the tow vehicle must have a compatible, correctly installed brake controller. Confirm controller and ESC compatibility for your vehicle and caravan.

Check that there is water in the tanks and that the correct tank is selected using the blue handle valve. Ensure the water pump is switched on.

Ensure that the outdoor shower taps are fully turned off, as open outdoor taps can prevent hot water reaching the indoor taps.

Periple RV caravans come with a 5-Year Structural Warranty and a 2-Year Manufacturer’s Warranty on components and appliances. Warranty terms apply to the original purchaser and are not transferable.

Your first service is due at 1,000km, followed by a service every 12 months or 10,000km – whichever occurs first. A full list of authorised repairers is on our website. Keeping your servicing up to date is important to maintain your warranty coverage.

Check wheel nuts with a torque wrench at 50km, 100km, 250km, and 500km after handover. After this initial period, check regularly – especially after travelling on corrugated roads.
